HDRThe challenge
Regional wastewater agencies needed an alternative to landfill disposal for biosolids generated by wastewater treatment plants throughout Southern California. Developing the Rialto Regional Biosolids Processing Facility required constructing a plant capable of receiving biosolids from multiple wastewater agencies and converting them into a reusable energy product. The work involved installing specialized processing equipment and coordinating the infrastructure needed to support the facility’s biosolids handling and conversion processes.

highlights
Innovative facility for converting wastewater biosolids to E-Fuel using a patented process
Design-build delivery met client’s budget and schedule expectations
Extensive mechanical and piping work required specialized labor and resources
Excellent safety record
Challenge met
Filanc constructed the biosolids processing facility and installed the systems required to support EnerTech’s SlurryCarb technology. The plant receives biosolids from regional wastewater treatment plants and processes them into E-Fuel, a renewable fuel used in cement kilns and other industrial applications.
The completed facility produces more than 60,000 tons of renewable fuel each year while significantly reducing landfill disposal of biosolids. By converting waste material into a valuable energy resource, the project provides wastewater agencies with a sustainable biosolids management solution and supports regional environmental goals.
