Tetra Tech / Owner: City of GunnisonThe challenge
The City of Gunnison sought to modernize major process equipment that had become obsolete or was nearing the end of its useful life. The improvements were intended to extend the plant’s operational life, reduce overall energy consumption and position the facility to meet more stringent nitrogen and phosphorus discharge requirements.

Challenge met
Filanc replaced key treatment equipment and completed upgrades throughout the facility. Improvements included replacement of two influent screw pumps, installation of two new perforated plate influent screens and replacement of oxidation ditch surface aerators.
Additional work included installation of bridge walkways across oxidation ditches, new mixed liquor instrumentation, replacement of the existing ultraviolet disinfection system with an in-vessel UV system, installation of new variable frequency drives and SCADA upgrades. The project also included installation of new dewatering equipment, renovations to the laboratory and administration building and energy efficiency improvements across the facility designed to reduce overall energy consumption by approximately 20 percent.
