CDM SmithThe challenge
Increasing activity at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton created the need to expand wastewater treatment capacity across the installation. Meeting those needs required upgrading the existing Southern Regional Tertiary Treatment Plant while constructing a new Northern Regional Tertiary Treatment Plant. The project also involved coordinating improvements across multiple locations on the base and maintaining reliable wastewater treatment operations that support ongoing military activities.

Challenge met
Filanc, as part of a joint venture team, delivered the design-build-operate-maintain project that expanded wastewater treatment infrastructure at Camp Pendleton. Improvements at the Southern Regional Tertiary Treatment Plant included installation of sequencing batch reactors that increased treatment capacity to approximately five million gallons per day.
Construction of the Northern facility included influent and effluent pumping stations, pipelines and associated treatment infrastructure. The project also included rehabilitation of percolation basins and installation of renewable energy systems that support plant operations. Together, these improvements expand wastewater treatment capacity while helping Camp Pendleton maintain reliable infrastructure that supports military operations and protects surrounding environmental resources.
