Years of hydrogen sulfide exposure had deteriorated concrete structures, protective coatings and aluminum covers at the Butler Headworks Facility, a critical component of the City of Peoria’s 20-MGD water reclamation facility. Rehabilitation work had to address structural damage while maintaining full plant operations throughout construction.

Challenge met
Filanc delivered the project through the City’s Job Order Contract program and worked with Wilson Engineers to develop a repair strategy that allowed the plant to remain operational during construction. The project included installation of a temporary bypass system that allowed crews to clean and dewater the headworks structure so repairs could be completed.
Work included concrete channel repairs, replacement of protective coatings and restoration of aluminum covers that protect the headworks equipment. By rehabilitating the deteriorated structures and restoring critical infrastructure, the project extends the service life of the facility and supports reliable wastewater treatment for the City of Peoria community.
