Jacobs Engineering / Owner: Colorado Springs UtilitiesThe challenge
Existing diversion and intake infrastructure serving Colorado Springs Utilities needed to be replaced to support raw water conveyance through the system. Constructing the new facilities required demolition of the existing creek access ramp and intake structure before new diversion and intake infrastructure could be installed. The work also involved integrating a new pump station with the existing pump line that conveys raw water through the system.

Challenge met
Filanc demolished the existing creek access ramp and intake structure to allow installation of the new diversion and intake facilities. Crews then constructed a new 10-MGD raw water pump station connected to the existing pump line.
The pump station includes four vertical turbine canned pumps powered by low-voltage electric motors. An integral electrical room houses variable frequency drives, motor control centers, control panels and a transfer switch that support operation of the facility. The completed project provides Colorado Springs Utilities with new diversion, intake and pumping infrastructure that supports reliable raw water conveyance.
